當時的繰出鉛筆多像兒童玩具，使用廉價的賽璐珞，筆桿粗大且易壞。早川徳次將其改良，製作成細長且內部結構精密的筆桿，採用鎳和黃銅等金屬材料，亦在外側加上螺旋狀雕刻裝飾。如此一來，廉價的鉛筆搖身一變，成為品質優良且大人也能使用的時尚書寫工具。

後來，早川徳次發展了電器品牌，公司名稱自然是源自他事業成功的起點。看到這裡，相信大家也知道「Sharp」名稱的由來了。

早川式繰出鉛筆當時僅限量製作了15枝，其中一枝現保存在日本奈良縣的聲寶博物館。Platinum根據當年的設計，限量復刻了早川式繰出鉛筆，採用現代技術忠實地再現了筆身外觀，內部結構則改用現代化設計，使用0.5mm粗細的鉛芯，只需輕輕扭動天冠就能按出筆芯。無論是重量、手感還是設計，都傳承了大正浪漫時代的神髓。

【Taisho Romantic】Platinum Replica Hayakawa Mechanical Pencil

You may have heard of the “Sharp” brand or used its electrical products, but did you know that mechanical pencils have a deep connection with this brand?

The story dates back to 1915 (Taisho Year 4), when metalworker Tokuji Hayakawa, leveraging his exceptional metalworking skills, improved upon the various flaws of mechanical pencils imported from overseas. He introduced Japan’s first mechanical pencil—the “Hayakawa Mechanical Pencil EVER READY SHARP PENCIL” (later renamed SHARP PENCIL, which also became the origin of the Japanese term for mechanical pencils).

At that time, mechanical pencils were often like children’s toys, made with cheap celluloid, featuring bulky and fragile barrels. Tokuji Hayakawa refined them, creating a slim and intricately structured barrel using metals like nickel and brass, and adding spiral engravings on the exterior for decoration. This transformed the inexpensive pencil into a high-quality, stylish writing tool suitable for adults.

Later, Tokuji Hayakawa ventured into the electrical appliance business, and the company name naturally stemmed from the starting point of his successful career. By now, you’ve likely figured out the origin of the “Sharp” name.

Back then, only 15 Hayakawa Mechanical Pencils were produced in limited quantities, one of which is now preserved in the Sharp Museum in Nara Prefecture, Japan. Platinum has recreated this pencil based on its original design, faithfully reproducing the exterior appearance with modern technology while updating the internal structure to a contemporary design. It uses 0.5mm lead, which can be dispensed with a gentle twist of the cap. From its weight and feel to its design, it carries the essence of the Taisho Romantic era.
